Reporters Caught 'Testing Security' at Rabin Memorial

Two researchers for Amnon Levy's Channel 10 television program were arrested yesterday after they infiltrated a memorial ceremony for former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin and his wife at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem.

The two, disguised as a man in a wheelchair and his female attendant, carried fake weapons and tried to approach Defense Minister Ehud Barak. However, they were arrested after they aroused the suspicions of Shin Bet security service guards. They were released only several hours later.

Itai Dankner, the program's editor, said the researchers were preparing an investigative report on Shin Bet security lapses. Earlier, he said, "One of our researchers reached [Foreign Minister and Kadima chairwoman] Tzipi Livni, spoke with her and shook her hand."

Dankner complained about the fact that the researchers were detained for hours, even though they immediately identified themselves as members of the press and both the program's senior staff and Channel 10's lawyers appealed to the Prime Minister's Office.

"They didn't let them speak with anyone or make a phone call, even though it was already clear that they were press," he said.
