One year ago, in July 2021, Yair Lapid surprised people in an unusual speech he delivered at the Global Forum to Combat Antisemitism. For years, Israel had on every possible occasion been promoting a particular conception of the Holocaust, rather than a universal one (“our disaster; never again – to us” instead of a human disaster, whose lesson is “never again to anyone”).
