Netanyahu's Racist Regime and Its Pallid Collaborators

Even if the PM pretends to be on the verge of signing a framework agreement, he must not be rescued by the center-left. Not for a second.

Hundreds of people walking in the freezing cold. Refugees. In sandals. Walking up to Jerusalem to protest an inconceivable reality. The state whose founders’ families were massacred as refugees who couldn’t find shelter, has once again imposed a blatantly illegal “law.” This is a law that imprisons thousands of people in camps without trial, without a judge and without examination.

The 15th of December is a kind of 4th of November. Within a few hours, all the ignominious manifestations of a radical rightist-racist-capitalist regime – a regime that tramples democracy and replaces it with fascism – came together.

On Sunday the Ministerial Legislation Committee approved a law for the political persecution of leftist organizations by a large majority. The cabinet approved another billion shekels for a new plane and residence for the emperor – after a waste of millions of shekels in the home of the emperor’s family had been exposed. Meanwhile, people are setting themselves on fire in the streets due to the regime’s brutal capitalism. Others freeze to death, because the regime won’t allocate the money – a quarter of the sum spent on the emperor’s palace - to bury electric cables in the ground, like everywhere else.

The regime is racist toward Arabs and blacks. In Tunisia, a single man who set himself on fire, protesting his poverty, was enough to trigger a wave of revolutions over the region. Yet here, about 10 men and women set themselves on fire and nothing happened. A falling leaf makes a louder sound.

On that day of horrors, Sunday, the democratic government was dealt another sledge-hammer blow intended to shatter it and replace it with a fascist-racist regime. Vladimir Putin is now crushing the media and replacing it with a “Russia Today” network. He had a good role model, and not only for the name. In the absence of free media there is no democracy. In this country, about half the media is turning into the emperor’s mouthpiece. The private media is smashed by casino billionaires who impoverish and deplete it, the public media is becoming the regime’s agents. But without free media who will know about the horrors? Like in that other place, imprisoning barefoot refugees in camps without trial will be presented by the emperor’s mouthpieces as carrying out the law. Order must be maintained.

Who makes all the horrors possible? Who is responsible for the end of democracy in Israel? Who is to blame for abusing the refugees and the poor, for the end of justice and the media? The blood of Israel’s democracy is on the hands of two people – Yair Lapid and Tzipi Livni. Without them, even without one of them, the horrors would not have been possible.

Netanyahu did not receive a majority vote. The rightist-religious bloc has only 61 Knesset seats, with which it cannot govern. Between the messianic Moshe Feiglin and Orit Strock to the democrat Ruby Rivlin, Netanyahu wouldn’t have been able to make any move in internal matters and would have been under immense external pressure. All Netanyahu’s pseudo-peace pranks were intended to deal with this impossible situation. Horror of horrors, once again, he has found collaborators in fascism, without whom he would not have been able to establish his rule.

To be a collaborator is not only immoral but also impractical. All the collaborators with the right were immediately wiped out politically. Every time the center-left shook off the lie of “helping out the right” and tried to topple it, the center-left won a sweeping victory. Thus it was with Yitzhak Shamir, who had to go to Madrid due to a narrow coalition. Yitzhak Rabin didn’t whine miserably “let’s save him, let’s help him,” but replaced him and gave us three bright years in a dark time. So did Ehud Barak when he ran against Netanyahu. He didn’t save him, he beat him.

Even if Netanyahu pretends to be on the verge of signing a framework agreement, which he would destroy later, he must not be rescued, not even for a second. Eighteen years since he orchestrated “with blood and fire we’ll drive Rabin out,” Netanyahu is systematically bringing fascism to Israel, even as he entered the home and bed of the murder victim.

Livni, Lapid and everyone from Labor who will support Netanyahu should know this: The destruction of democracy, abuse of barefoot refugees in the cold, hatred of blacks, trampling the poor, all this evil is on your hands. There’s none so despicable as collaborators.
