How Did Conservative Abbas Become a More Legitimate Coalition Partner Than Ayman Odeh?

Whatever happens Tuesday night to the mandate to form the government, Benjamin Netanyahu won on one front a long time ago: He enabled the United Arab List to be seen as legitimate partners for a coalition while disqualifying the Joint List for that same purpose. It was a move that has no clear logic behind it, aside from what the right likes to refer to as “engineering consciousness,” which hog-tied the leaders of the so-called bloc for change in advance with respect to Naftali Bennett’s blackmail attempts.
