Right this moment, as you’re reading these lines, you can probably hear the engines of the bulldozers thundering on their way to carry out their mission: Demolishing the homes of the three Jewish suspects in the murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir.

That’s why I’m sending out this emotional call to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: Don’t touch the houses! Stop the bulldozers! It’s not fair. It’s an injustice that cries out to the heavens! After all, we’re talking about three good, God-fearing Jews who were in a state of temporary insanity when they committed the murder – as all those close to them are explaining. They simply weren’t responsible for their actions.
After all, it’s inconceivable that Jews would do such a thing. Jews don’t kill innocent people. Jews don’t murder out of revenge. Jews don’t burn people alive. After all, in the Ten Commandments it is written, “Thou shalt not murder,” and they studied Torah.
And why demolish homes? How are their parents, brothers and sisters living in the houses to blame? What’s their connection to the deed? Where will they live after their home is demolished? Is it their fault that a demon entered the three suspects and forced them to do what they didn’t want to do? The prophet Jeremiah already complained: “The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge” (Jeremiah 31:28). And the reverse is true as well: “The sons have eaten sour grapes, and the teeth of the fathers are set on edge.”
It’s correct that, at the beginning of July, the Israel Defense Forces requested – and the High Court of Justice approved, like a rubber stamp – the demolition of the home of Ziad Awad, the alleged murderer of police officer Baruch Mizrahi near Hebron.
Although no indictment has been served against Awad, not to mention a conviction, his family’s apartment has already been demolished. And it’s also true that the IDF this week issued injunctions to demolish the homes of the families of the two suspects in the murder of yeshiva boys Gilad Shaar, Eyal Yifrah and Naftali Fraenkel.
The two suspects have not yet been found – and have not been tried, of course – but who needs this nonsense of a trial, prosecutor, defense attorney and all that waste of time and money? You demolish the home, and that’s that. Afterward, you can find out who exactly did what: “We will do and we will hear.”
That’s how Arabs are treated. But these three are Jews, and that’s already another story – because Jewish murderers can only be insane. To prove that one of the suspects – the-29 year-old – is not sane, his friends report that a year and a half ago, he told his psychiatrist that he’d had thoughts about harming his infant daughter, 1-month-old at the time. The problem is, that actually proves how sane he is. If he really had thoughts about harming the baby, the fact is he didn’t follow through on them. He knew very well how to differentiate between good and bad. According to his criteria: Killing an Arab is good. Killing a Jew? God forbid.
The friends also claim that the three are not “functioning individuals.” Not functioning? They sat and planned the murder in detail. A day before the murder, two of them tried to kidnap a 9-year-old boy in Shoafat; only the intervention of passersby prevented his murder.
On the night of the kidnapping, July 2, they tried to kidnap another child, but failed once again. In the end they succeeded. They beat Abu Khdeir over the head, handcuffed him, doused him with gasoline and set him on fire while he was still alive, screaming hysterically. And that’s called “not functioning individuals”? After all, they carried out their plan to the letter, with demonic stubbornness.
Netanyahu said of Abu Khdeir’s murder that we don’t distinguish between blood and blood, that terror is terror. But we know that he distinguishes very well between Jewish blood and Arab blood, and between terror and terror. He and his government. The fact is, the government demolishes homes of murderers of Jews, but wouldn’t dream of demolishing the homes of Jewish terrorists.
That’s why the families of the three can sleep peacefully. It’s clear that the three Jews are merely unfortunate victims of the situation. Therefore, not only will their homes not be demolished, but they should be released already today, so they can spend the Sabbath at home, together with their families. Shabbat Shalom.
