Residents of Northern Israel Evacuate Homes in the Path of Brush Fires

Large numbers of firefighters deploy in the Galilee, Parks Authority declares state of high alert.

Several brush and forest fires broke out in northern Israel on Wednesday, threatening a number of residences that lie in the path of the flames.

Large numbers of firefighters have deployed in the Galilee and the parks authority has declared a state of high alert.

The flames and heavy smoke have led to the evacuation of several houses in the Galilee town of Rosh Pina, and in nearby Sakhnin.

No injuries have been reported in the fires.

The blazes follow a heat wave and a long dry spell in Israel.
