Cabinet Approves Development of National Bicycle Network

Gov't allocates NIS 50 million to advancement of outdoor activities and camping culture.

The cabinet decided on Sunday to allocate NIS 50 million to the development of a national bicycle network.

Launching the Nature and Environment Awareness Week at Beit She'arim National Park in the Galilee, the cabinet voted in favor of paving a comprehensive network of bicycle lanes in rural as well as urban areas.

To this end, a panel comprising officials from the Tourism, Transport and Environment Ministries and the Nature and National Parks Authority will be set up. It will submit an interim report within six months and will also devise a five-year plan to upgrade bicycle routes nationwide.

As part of the project, 32 trailer parks will be built in order to advance outdoor activities and camping culture. It will also include a major advertising campaign.
