Israeli pair among playwrights in next Teatroneto Festival

This year's Teatroneto festival will be held in late March at the Jaffa and Hasimta theaters and at the Ilana Goor Museum, all in Jaffa. Out of around 75 plays submitted for consideration, eight plays for adults and three for children were selected for performance in the 24th annual version of the festival, which features one-actor plays. Nava Semel and Savyon Liebrecht were among the playwrights whose works were chosen. The Tel Aviv municipality and the Old Jaffa Development Company cut the festival's budget for 2013 by 30 percent from 2012, to NIS 500,000. The purse for first prize at the festival is NIS 10,000. Foreign journalists demand protection against the IDF

The Foreign Press Association in Israel has asked Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein to step in to stop violence against members by the Israel Defense Forces. The written demand comes after 10 complaints of violence and disproportionate use of force by IDF soldiers and Border Police officers against journalists in Israel who work for foreign news organizations, including a number in the past several weeks. In one case an Associated Press photographer was detained, handcuffed and forced to sit on the ground for five hours without food or water or access to a bathroom. (Gili Izikovich )

Claude Miller's last movie will be shown at French Film Festival

Claude Miller's last film, "Therese Desqueyroux," has been selected to close Israel's 10th French Film Festival, scheduled to run from March 9-19 in cinematheques around the country. "Therese Desqueyroux" premiered in last year's Cannes film festival, one month after the director's death. Philippe Le Guay's "Alceste a bicyclette" ("Cycling with Moliere" ), starring Fabrice Luchini and Lambert Wilson, will open the festival. Le Guay and Wilson will attend the festival. (Nirit Anderman )
