Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah says his organization has an arsenal that is beyond anything Israel could even imagine. In a long interview that is to be aired in a few days by Al Mayadeen, a Lebanon-based satellite television station, Nasrallah says Hezbollah is prepared for a military confrontation with Israel — if and when Israel imposes it on Hezbollah, in his words.

Nasrallah also refers to recent reports of the arrest of the head of Hezbollah’s foreign operations, Mohammed Shawraba, as an Israeli spy.

The interview comes at a sensitive time for Hezbollah on both the Lebanese and the wider Middle East fronts. The organization has opened a dialogue with Saad Hariri’s Al-Mustaqbal movement, its political foe within Lebanon. At the same time, Hezbollah is concerned with extremist organizations such as the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL and the Nusra Front as well as the changing relations between Iran and the world powers.

Nasrallah, who condemned the attack in Paris, will stress that he warned of the danger posed by the expansion of groups such as the Islamic State into the Middle East and Europe. He will also describe the background for the ongoing war in Syria.

The Lebanese attach great significance to the dialogue between Hezbollah and Al-Mustaqbal. A figure who is close to Hariri told Haaretz that this dialogue reflects a green light given by Iran and Saudi Arabia, the respective sponsors of each party, who are worried by recent terror attacks in Lebanon and who would like to see a united national Lebanese front.
