Balad MK Haneen Zoabi is taking serious umbrage at an animated campaign video produced by her legislative colleague from the right of the political spectrum, Danny Danon.
Zoabi on Thursday filed a complaint with the police over the video, which portrays the Likud MK as a U.S. western sheriff enforcing the laws – with efforts including physically tossing Zoabi out of a bar called "Knesset" and locking her up with Hamas's Ismail Haniyeh and former Israeli MK Azmi Bishara.
The music in the English-subtitled video is the American classic "Oh, Susanna" – except the chorus, rhyming in Hebrew, becomes "Oh, Zoabi; cry my dear; because now Dani's here; the real right-winger."
Zoabi's complaint charges incitement on the part of Danon, who is running against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the leadership of Likud, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Danon's response: "A person who serves as the Hamas representative in the Israeli Knesset should be sitting in jail and not preaching on the subject of incitement and freedom of expression."
Zoabi, an Israeli Arab, has been a strong and angry advocate for the Palestinians. She was a passenger on the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish ship that in 2010 tried to run the Israeli blockade of Gaza.
Earlier this year she was sanctioned by the Knesset for saying that the people who kidnapped and killed three Jewish teens in the West Bank were not terrorists.
