Ronald Lauder

Ronald S. Lauder has served as president of the World Jewish Congress since 2007. He previously served as chairman of the Jewish National Fund and of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations.

In 1986, Lauder was appointed U.S. ambassador to Austria, having served previously as deputy assistant secretary of defense for European and NATO policy at the Pentagon. In 1989, he established the Ronald S. Lauder Foundation, which supports Jewish schools, summer camps and community centers in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union countries.

A patron of the arts and a noted collector, Lauder was chairman of the New York Museum of Modern Art from 1995 to 2005 and he now serves as its honorary chairman. In 2001, he created the Neue Galerie, one of New York’s premier museums, which focuses on German and Austrian art.
