U.S. F-15E fighter jet shoots down Iranian-made Shahed 129 pro-regime drone near al-Tanf, Syria. The drone was reportedly armed and in firing range of U.S. troops, a U.S. defense official confirmed to Fox News and CNN

This is the second time the U.S. has shot down an Iranian drone in less than a month. The downing also marks the fifth time since late May the U.S. military has bombed pro-Syrian forces in southern Syria.

U.S. special operations forces have been training Syrian rebels near al-Tanf Syria, close to Syria’s border with Iraq and Jordan for the past few years.

The downing of the drone comes just two days U.S. warplane shot down a Syrian army jet on Sunday in the southern Raqqa countryside with Washington saying the jet had dropped bombs near U.S. backed forces and Damascus saying the plane was downed while flying a mission against Islamic State militants.

Russia followed up on Monday threatening to intercept any aircraft in its area of operations in Syria, according to official Russian news outlets.
