A military installation near the Lebanese border in northern Syria is being used to manufacture precision surface-to-surface missiles, according to an intelligence report published Wednesday evening by ImageSat International.

According to the company, however, missile engines or warheads are not being made at the site.

The site is in Safita in northwestern Syria, around eight kilometers from the Lebanese border. An analysis of satellite images distributed by the company notes the facility is located in an area controlled by the Assad regime and that Russian anti-aircraft batteries are deployed there.

According to the company, the type of construction, the location of the compound and evidence of activity at the site and its environs increase the probability that at issue is a missile manufacturing plant. ISI added, however, that there is no way to confirm this assessment due to suspicions that it’s an Iranian site.

The company said that in recent months there has been increased vehicular traffic to the site and that a new water tower has been erected there.
