Gaza police say room in which incident occurred held a large amount of fireworks and firecrackers

Two people were killed and eight others were wounded on Saturday in a Gaza Strip explosion, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza.

Three of the wounded were said to be in critical condition.

The cause of the blast in the Shujaiyeh neighborhood of Gaza City was not immediately clear. Gaza police said that the room in which it occurred held a large amount of fireworks and firecrackers.

In May, six members of Hamas were killed in a building in Gaza. The group blamed the Israeli military, which denied the charge. A Palestinian source told Haaretz then that all signs pointed to a blast resulting from the handling of explosives inside a building and that was evidence suggesting the dead were members of Hamas's military wing.
