Twelve Palestinians Injured in West Bank Clashes With Israeli Forces

Five Palestinians killed, dozens wounded over the past two weeks as protests against Trump peace plan continue

Twelve Palestinians were injured, including two by rubber-coated bullets, during clashes with Israeli security forces in the Palestinian town of Al Bireh, in the central West Bank, the Red Crescent reported on Tuesday.

Ten were injured by tear gas inhalation, the rescue organization said. The confrontation took place near the northern entrance to the city, close to the Beit El IDF checkpoint, close to the eponymous settlement.

Five Palestinians were killed and dozens were wounded in the West Bank over the last two weeks, as Palestinians protested the Trump administration's Mideast peace plan.

Israeli troops shot seventeen-year-old Mohammad Salman Toameh Al-Hadad in the chest with live fire in Hebron last Wednesday. He died after being evacuated to the city hospital, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Three Palestinians were killed on February 5 and 6, among them a police cadet, identified as Yazan Abu Tabikh, apparently killed by stray fire during clashes in the West Bank city of Jenin. On Friday, another young Palestinian was shot in the aorta and killed in the village of Qaffin, near the city of Tul Karm.

There was a general uptick in violence throughout the Palestinian territories. Israeli soldiers were shot at in the West Bank, and Jerusalem - the gunman in the second attack, an Israeli citizen, was killed. A car-ramming in Jerusalem also injured 12 soldiers. Meanwhile, Israel and Gaza-based factions exchanged fire, and Israel reintroduced restrictions on the coastal enclave.

The plan, which Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled on January 28, would foresee the eventual creation of a Palestinian state, but it falls far short of minimal Palestinian demands and would leave sizable chunks of the West Bank in Israeli hands.
