Confident of Support From the West, the Palestinian Authority Violently Suppresses Protests

A group of men dressed in civilian clothes suddenly appeared out of nowhere and began charging at protesters marching down Radio Street in central Ramallah and chanting, “The people want to bring down the regime” and “Disgrace and shame – the P is killing the revolutionaries.” Their protests were over political activist Nizar Banat, who was beaten to death after his arrest by Palestinian security personnel last Thursday. Several of the men who charged at the protesters held batons and one had a plank in his hand.
