The Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that it filed a strong condemnation with the Jordanian government over a photo of a Jordanian minister stepping on the Israeli flag, which it described as an "act of disrespect."

The ministry said it "looks gravely upon the act of disrespect toward the Israeli flag committed by a minister in the Jordanian government in the engineers' union building in Amman."

The statement added that "the acting Jordanian ambassador in Israel, Mohammad Hmeid, has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry for clarifications."

A photo published on the Jordanian website Jfranews showed Jordanian Information Minister Jumana Ghunaimat stepping on a large image of the Israeli flag. Footprints were also printed on the flag, which Israel said was displayed at a gathering of Jordan's engineering union.
