The leader of Lebanon's militant Hezbollah group said on Friday that Israel made "a stupid and historic mistake" in attacking a Syria military air base, killing seven Iranians.

Hassan Nasrallah said that Monday's attack on the T4 air base, located near Homs, ushers in a new phase that puts Israel in a state of "direct confrontation" with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Nasrallah said that the "targeted killing" of Iranians was an act of "grave foolishness."

Russia, Syria and Iran have all blamed Israel for the attack, which saw seven Iranian advisers killed in a military air base in Syria earlier this week. The attack targeted an air force compound in the airfield. According to international media, it hit a variety of aerial abilities that Tehran has begun bolstering across Syria.

Speaking via satellite link to supporters in Beirut Friday, Nasrallah also called the alleged chemical weapons attack in Douma "theater."
