American federal agents have arrested a man suspected of planning an attack at a Miami-area synagogue, the local station 7News reported early Monday.
Citing sources, the report said the suspect planned to throw an explosive device into the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center in what was described as a thwarted terror attack.
Security official said FBI agents prevented the attack, which was planned to take place during Passover, by posing as terrorists. The suspect was detained before managing to do any harm.
The report was not immediately confirmed by the FBI.
The report said that the suspect will appear in federal court early this week. FBI officials declined to provide further information about the investigation.
Residents have reacted to the incidents with concern and surprise. "Everybody says, 'I live in a small town. It doesn't happen here,' but the sad part is, it happens everywhere," local Richard Levinson told 7News.
