Police Commissioner William Bratton says New York City has beefed up security at synagogues and other symbolic locations following the terrorist attack at a Jerusalem synagogue on Tuesday, which killed four worshippers.
Three of whom were American citizens, the fourth was a Briton.
Bratton says the measures are a precaution. There is no known threat in New York City.
Bratton said Tuesday the department is following developments closely and working with the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. The NYPD also has a liaison posted in Israel.
The commissioner asks the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.
