The shameless hit-and-run driver who killed an Orthodox couple as they rode to the hospital to deliver their first baby told a reporter that he was sorry that they died along with their newborn boy.

Career criminal Julio Acevedo, who is still on the run from police, said he raced away from the horror Sunday morning crash in Brooklyn because he didn’t know Nachman and Raizy Glauber had died.

“My heart goes out to those people,” Julio Acevedo, 44, told WABC News from an undisclosed location. “I left the scene, and when I did leave the scene I didn’t know anyone died.”

Acevedo, an ex-con with a long rap sheet including a manslaughter conviction, claimed he was fleeing after being shot at nearby when he careened into the livery cab carrying the Glaubers, who were expecting their first baby.
