Harry Shearer, the voice behind Principal Skinner, Mr. Burns and Ned Flanders (among many other characters), announced on Twitter that he is leaving "The Simpsons" after 25 years.
The prolific 71-year-old voice actor quoted Simpsons showrunner James L. Brooks' lawyer, who said "the show will go on, Harry will not be part of it."
According to Shearer, his apparent "lack of freedom to do other work" is the primary cause of the split.
Shearer, the son of Jewish immigrants from Austria and Poland, had not signed a contract for the upcoming 27th season of the long-running show. However, producers remained optimistic that Shearer would re-join the show.
from James L. Brooks' lawyer: "show will go on, Harry will not be part of it, wish him the best.". (1/2)
