Jewish-American singer Barbra Streisand landed in Israel on Sunday evening ahead of her debut Israeli performances at the Bloomfield Stadium on June 20 and 22 in Jaffa as part of the Israeli Presidential Conference.

Stepping off the airplane in the early evening, Streisand wore a white jacket, pants and hat, and cradled her pet coton de Tulear dog in her hands as she walked down the stairs.

While in Israel, Streisand will stay at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, where the likes of U.S. President Barack Obama have stayed.

Streisand's two shows in Tel Aviv are expected to attract a total of 32,000 fans. Tickets for the shows on June 20 and 22 are being advertised as starting at NIS 1,100, with VIP entrance costing NIS 3,400.

Streisand arrived in Israel after a concert tour of five European cities: London, Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne and Berlin.

One of the most successful entertainers of all time, Streisand has sold some 72.5 million albums in the United States. In February, she performed at the Academy Awards for the first time in 36 years, and is fondly remembered for her role in the 1983 film adaptation of Isaac Bashevis Singer's "Yentl."

Streisand was supposed to perform in Israel in 2008 for celebrations marking the country's 60th Independence Day but pulled out of the event, citing personal reasons.

She was also one of the big-name guests slated to appear at a festive Jerusalem convention hosted by President Shimon Peres in May of that year, where she was to perform a rendition of the Hebrew prayer Avinu Malkeinu (Our Father, Our King). But she notified the Israeli government roughly a month before that event that she would not be able to attend due to unspecified personal obligations, according to her spokesman, Dick Guttman.

This time, Streisand acceded to the request of President Shimon Peres to perform here. The Israeli Presidential Conference is due to be held on June 18 to 20.
