Israeli-American billionaire Haim Saban, the 70-year-old chairman of Spanish-language television network Univision, recently brought together Barbra Streisand, Pamela Anderson and other stars of the entertainment and tech worlds to raise $34 million for Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, The Hollywood Reporter said Friday.

That amount is “remarkable” for a single fundraising event, the report said.

“This event is always one of the most inspiring and emotional evenings of the year,” said Streisand. “The soldiers of the IDF deserve our utmost respect and gratitude for all that they sacrifice to protect Israel, the only democratic state in the region.”

Saban tearfully told the more than 1,200 attendees at the fundraising dinner at California’s Beverly Hilton on Thursday that he discouraged anonymous donations this year, saying it was important for supporters to "stand with Israel publicly, vocally and very loudly," the report said.

Donors included Larry Ellison, co-founder and chairman of computer technology company Oracle, who gave $10 million, and leading Republican contributors Sheldon and Miriam Adelson, who gave $5 million, according to the report.

The Hollywood Reporter attributed this year’s extensive support from Hollywood moguls and studios to Israel’s 50-day war with Hamas this summer.
