BBC television is planning a broad programming effort to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz on January 27, a media report says.

The date is marked worldwide as Holocaust Memorial Day.

Featured in the series, the U.K. Guardian reports, will be a drama starring the Emmy-award-winning British actor Martin Freeman and the Australian Golden-Globe-winning actor Anthony LaPaglia.

That program, to be called "The Eichmann Show," will see Freeman play Milton Fruchtman, a TV producer who worked to televise the trial of Adolf Eichmann in Israel in 1961. LaPaglia will play the TV director Leo Hurwitz.

The BBC programming effort will also include a screening of "Shoah," the 1985 documentary by Claude Lanzmann, the Guardian reported, citing a statement from Danny Cohen, head of BBC TV.

Also among the scheduled programs, the Guardian reported, are "A Story of Remembrance," in which three women will discuss how the Holocaust affected their lives and families; and "Freddie Knoller's War," telling the story of a Vienna-born Auschwitz survivor who is now 93.
