The number of anti-Semitic incidents in Britain has more than doubled amid fighting between Israel and Gaza, the Daily Mail reported this week.

According to the report, more than 100 incidents have been recorded this month by the Community Security Trust, a charity that provides security for Britain’s Jewish communities.

Mark Gardner, CST’s director of communications, told the British daily that this figure is “at least double” what the group would expect to see, but that “the situation is not out of hand – as is the case in France.”

According to the Daily Mail, the group fears the total number of hate crimes is the second highest ever recorded, following violence amid Israel’s last operation in the Gaza Strip, Pillar of Defense, in late 2008 - early 2009.

In several cases, perpetrators of anti-Semitic attacks have invoked the Holocaust, the article says, including shouts of “Heil Hitler.” In one of the most serious incidents described in the report, four Muslim youths attacked a rabbi outside a Jewish boarding school in Gateshead.
