Veteran Anti-Defamation League head Abe Foxman was awarded the 2014 Menachem Begin Prize on Wednesday night for his work in "eradicating all signs of anti-Semitism, racism and anti-Israelism around the globe."

The award was awarded by the Menachem Begin Heritage Center and presented at the award ceremony by Deputy Foreign Minister Tzahi Hanegbi.

The center's director Herzl Makov praised Foxman for being "at the frontlines of defending the State of Israel" for the past 50 years.

The prize is awarded annually to an individual or organization in recognition of special activities on behalf of the people of Israel and their homeland. Other 2014 recipients were NGO Monitor and the actor Chaim Topol.

Foxman, who is due to step down as ADL head next July, received his prize on Wednesday night due to his inability to attend the original award ceremony.
