As we humble folks donned our costumes for Purim festivites, celebrities also strutted their stuff this year - and even experimented with traditional hamantaschen.

Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli treated her followers on Instagram to a shot of her dressed up as a yellow tiger, with the caption A stylish tiger #happyPurim."

Just ahead of the long-awaited return of HBO's Game of Thrones, pop queen Madonna surprised fans and dressed up as heroine Daenerys Targaryan, the white-blonde Mother of Dragons, otherwise known as Khaleesi.

Although Madonna was born to a Roman Catholic family, she adopted Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism, in the 1990s. Her Instagram picture was captioned Happy Purim!!!!! All Hail All Queens! ##certainty.

Mayim Bialik, star of the smash U.S. television comedy The Big Bang Theory" revolutionized the traditional Purim sweet, hamantaschen, posting a photo of hamantaschen-shaped sushi. The caption read: "Sushi hamantaschen?!?! Absolutely. Chag sameach to everyone celebrating Purim today!"

And, in case you missed it, just before Purim, President Shimon Peres posted to Facebook pictures showing the disguise he wore when he traveled to Jordan to meet with King Hussein in the 1970s - more than a decade before a peace treaty between Israel and Jordan.

"Purim is a great time dress up but not the only time," he wrote on his Facebook page on Friday afternoon, a day before the Jewish holiday began. "The beauty of Purim is that it brings out the creativity in us all in celebration of a holiday that is all about fun!" he wrote.
