11 Things That Still Cost Less in Israel

Text Appeal

Israelis love to talk on their phones, and luckily for them, there's plenty of companies vying for their business.

6. Cellular phone service

It’s a well-known fact of life that Israelis are addicted to their mobile phones. Fortunately for them, the price of cellphone service is significantly cheaper at home. At Pelephone, one of the big service providers in Israel, a month of unlimited talk and texting will cost you NIS 119 on a 3GB data plan (about $33.50) and NIS 129 on a 5 GB data plan (slightly more than $36). At Orange, for the added perk of 500 minutes of overseas calls, you’ll pay NIS 149 a month on the 3GB plan (about $42) and NIS 165 a month on the 5GB plan (about $46.50). At some of the new Israeli cellphone service providers, you’ll pay even cheaper rates. In the United States, by comparison, you’ll pay about $70 a month for unlimited talking and texting at the two major service providers -- AT&T and Verizon – on a 5GB plan. It’s important to bear in mind, though, that the Israeli providers do not require you to purchase your cellphone with them as the American providers do, and that typically, electronic devices are cheaper in America.
