Rabbi Ovadia Yosef Hospitalized for Third Time in a Week

The 93-year-old spiritual leader of Shas was taken to the hospital in an intensive-care ambulance; special prayer services for his recovery will be held Monday night.

Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef was hospitalized on Sunday night for the third time in a week due to a deterioration in his condition.

Unlike the previous hospitalizations, this time he was taken to the Hadassah University Hospital, Ein Karem, in an intensive-care ambulance that was called to his home after his blood pressure dropped.

Family members say that although his condition has worsened, he remains conscious and able to communicate with those around him.

The 93-year-old Rabbi Yosef has suffered recently from a series of health problems.

After undergoing back surgery, he began to suffer from problems with his heart and lungs. Last week, he was hospitalized for five days. On Sunday morning, after spending the weekend at his home in Jerusalem’s Har Nof neighborhood, he returned to the hospital for a series of tests. He was released to his home again, and the ambulance was summoned there several hours later.
