Many retired folks are discovering that a major benefit of moving to Israel later on in life is substantial savings in their monthly medication bills. (An additional plus is that it takes much less time to have your prescription filled here, since Israeli pharmacies will do it on the spot rather than send you home and have you come back later.)  We decided to compare the price of Lipitor -- a high-in-demand medication taken to lower cholesterol levels. In Israel, the cost of a month’s supply of the 20-milligram tablets is NIS 66 or roughly the equivalent of $19. In the United States, it varies widely, starting as low as $60 and going as high as $175. But compared with even the cheapest U.S. option, Israelis will save more than $40 a month on this medication.
