An Israeli F-16 was shot down Saturday morning after Israel struck targets in Syria in response to an Iranian drone that infiltrated Israeli airspace.

The Israeli fighter jets attacked the drone's control site after an attack helicopter intercepted the drone.

The two F-16 pilots ejected as the plane went down in northern Israel. The pilots were taken to the hospital in stable condition. Both are recovering, with the navigator "back on his feet," according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Following the downing of the jet Israel responded with a fresh "large-scale strike" in Syria, which an Israeli general said was "the biggest and most significant attack the air force has conducted against Syrian air defenses" since the 1982 Lebanon War.
