REUTERS - The head of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Saturday made the Republican case for blocking an agreement with Iran over its nuclear program.

In the weekly Republican party address, U.S. Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee warned that the deal, reached between Iran and world power in July, will give Tehran access to hundreds of billions of dollars in cash, some of which he alleges Iran will use to fund terrorism.

He said the U.S. Senate needs to have a thorough and thoughtful debate over the agreement, which he said "could be one of the most consequential votes" senators may case during their time in Congress.

Congress has until Sept. 17 to consider a resolution of disapproval of the Iran deal, which would eliminate U.S. President Barack Obama's ability to waive all sanctions on Iran imposed by the U.S. Congress, a key component of the agreement.
