Out and About for Passover in Israel

Suggestions for fun things to do over the holiday period.


"Cinderella," a children's opera. In the Gioachino Rossini version of the classic fairy tale, it's Alidoro the magician, not a fairy godmother, who helps Cinderella get to the ball. The opera is sung in Hebrew. For children aged 3-8. (The Israeli Opera will also be performing other children's operas over Passover, including "Mozart's Magic Box" and "The Marriage of Figaro." )

The Haifa International Children's Theater Festival also continues today and Tuesday, at the Haifa Municipal Theater, featuring productions from Israel and overseas, plus outdoor entertainment.


The Jerusalem Ice Festival.

Passover animation festival. There will be comic stands, short animated films, 3-D animation workshops for children and digital sculpting. The festival began yesterday and continues through Wednesday.

"Hanut shel Hayot" (Animal Store ), a puppet show about the first zoo in Israel. Written by Maya Han and Miki Yones, and directed by Shmuel Shohat. For children aged 5-9.

Place: Bialik House, Tel Aviv

Time: Noon


Jerusalem Ice Festival. This ice sculpture exhibit, which is open until April 30, features chilly versions of Jerusalem sites like the Tower of David and characters from children's stories. There is also an ice-skating rink and an ice bar.

Place: Old Railway Station, Jerusalem

Time: 10 A.M.-11 P.M.


"Kolot Ha'adama" (Sounds of the Ground ), an exhibit about the environment, ecology and nature. Activities include sculpting and ecological art. A great opportunity to visit this interesting museum.

Place: Wilfrid Israel Museum, Kibbutz Hazorea

Time: 10 A.M.-3 P.M.


The band "Perurim" (Crumbs) offers a concert for the whole family. Eti and Itay Abramovitz, musicians and the parents of two toddlers, bring together many different musical styles, including samba, classical, swing, salsa, Irish, African and Mediterranean.
