A large police force has been deployed in southern Israel near Sderot, Ashdod and Ashkelon, after intelligence gathered by security forces suggesting an imminent terrorist attack.
Police officers and Border Police troops put up many checkpoints on roads in the Lachish Regional Council.
The police distributed pictures the suspected terrorist, a woman from Beit Sira, a Palestinian town on the eastern side of the Separation Barrier near Modiin. Security personnel captured a man, with whom she was in contact in Kibbutz Erez, bordering the Gaza Strip, and took him in to be interrogated.
Less than an hour later, the terror alert was lifted after police learned from the from the man they arrested that the would-be terrorist didn't enter Israel.
Also on Monday, according to an initial report a Palestinian was shot after he attempted to stab soldiers at a checkpoint near Hermesh in the West Bank. He was treated for his injuries on the scene. No soldier was injured in the incident.
