The Iran-linked Black Shadow hacker group, which infiltrated the servers of Israeli web hosting site Cyberserve, has started leaking the data it has stolen from an LGBTQ dating site on Sunday.
As of Sunday morning, the hackers released a file of 1,000 Atraf dating site accounts, out of what they claim is a full list of 1 million. The data includes the names of the users and their website passwords. If the website were still online – it was taken down as part of the hack – anyone would be able to enter these users’ profiles. The website stored user passwords in plain text, a particularly unsecure method of doing so. Most websites now hash – or scramble – the passwords they store.
