Despite all the warnings, the protests and the existence of much less dangerous alternatives, Israel – alone in this regard among the Western democracies – insisted on using the capabilities of its domestic intelligence agency against its citizens, on the pretext of fighting the coronavirus pandemic. Everyone knows the Shin Bet contact-tracing "tool" would not be a panacea and could greatly compromise the privacy of Israeli citizens. In fact, its efficacy can only be described as dismal.
