Palestinian Shot Dead in Suspected Stabbing Attempt Near Hebron

Palestinian reports name dead man as 28-year-old Wael Al-Jabari of Hebron

A Palestinian was shot dead on Monday during an suspected stabbing attempt next to the settlement of Kiryat Arba near Hebron. No Israelis were wounded.

Palestinian reports named the dead man as 28-year-old Wael Al-Jabari from Hebron.

The Israeli military said an initial probe showed that "the terrorist pulled out a knife and approached IDF troops at the Givat Avot checkpoint in Hebron. The troops responded by firing at him."

Last month an Israeli Arab man who was suspected of trying to stab a Jerusalem policeman was shot to death in Jerusalem's Muslim Quarter.

A statement released by police said the man emerged from an area near the Temple Mount,  started walking towards a team of policemen stationed in the area and tried to stab one of them with a knife he had in his possession.
