Tel Aviv ended its successful run through Israel Netball’s regular season with a 45-13 trouncing of Jerusalem Mercaz last week, signaling its rivals in the upcoming playoffs that it will be a tough target to knock down.
Ra’anana defeated Katamon 40-35 in the other match on the final day of the regular season. In its loss, Katamon missed out on the opportunity to leapfrog Jtown into the playoffs. Katamon actually held a slight lead at halftime, 20-19, but Ra’anana went up 27-26 in the third period and finished strong to fend off its younger opponents.
Tel Aviv finished the year with a 9-1 record, amassing 47 points. Jerusalem Mercaz finished a distant second with a 6-4 record and 34 points. Ra’anana ended one point behind Mercaz with the same record. Jtown rounded out the top four teams at 5-5 with 31 points.
Ra’anana and Jtown will meet in the third-place playoff on Thursday, after which Mercaz will challenge Tel Aviv in the league championship game.
