Hapoel Holon has final basketball test in Europe

Hapoel Holon's basketball squad visits Antwerp tonight in the final Group H game in the Eurochallenge competition. Holon can lose by as much as 26 points and still advance to the final 16. If it loses by 15 points or less, Holon will finish at the top of the group. Holon has another reason to celebrate - the city laid the cornerstone Monday for a new 5,300-seat stadium, where the team plans to play starting in the 2014/15 season. (Arie Livnat )

Britain seeks new inquests into deaths of 96 soccer fans

The deaths of 96 soccer fans in Britain's worst sporting disaster could be reinvestigated after the country's chief prosecutor launched a formal application on Monday to quash inquests' verdicts. The Liverpool supporters died in a crush in an enclosed, overcrowded terrace at the stadium in the northern city of Sheffield on April 15, 1989, during an FA Cup semifinal against Nottingham Forest. Attorney General Dominic Grieve applied to the High Court to overturn the "accidental death" verdicts reached at the original inquests into the Hillsborough stadium tragedy. (Reuters )

Stanford still No. 1 in women's hoops poll

Stanford remains No. 1 in The Associated Press women's basketball poll, narrowly ahead of Connecticut. The Cardinal had 22 first-place votes Monday, while UConn received 16. Baylor got the other two. Stanford had the week off for exams, while the Huskies beat Maryland and Penn State by 15 points each. The Lady Bears topped Notre Dame by 12 in a rematch of last season's NCAA championship game. Duke and Notre Dame remain fourth and fifth. (AP )
