Paralympics / London 2012 / Israel Guaranteed at Least a Bronze Medal in Wheelchair Tennis

Two of the three Israelis in action on Tuesday progressed to the semi-finals.

Israel is guaranteed at least a bronze medal in the Men's Quad Wheelchair Tennis Singles at the London Games, after two of the three Israelis in action yesterday progressed to the semi-finals.

Noam Gershony overcame American Bryan Barten in straight sets (6-1, 6-1 ) to set up a semi-final clash against compatriot Shraga Weinberg, who needed three sets to defeat two-time defending champion Peter Norfolk of Team GB. The only Israeli to lose in the quarter-final was Boaz Kramer, who was defeated in straight sets by American David Wagner (6-3, 6-0).

Elsewhere, marksman Doron Shaziri finished sixth overall in the final of the Mixed R6-50m Prone event at the Royal Artillery Barracks in London, despite being in an excellent position to pick up a medal.

According to Ron Bolotin, the head of the Israeli delegation, Shaziri was "two bullets away from a medal. It was a very close competition and the three medal winners were very unexpected."

In the pool, meanwhile, Inbal Pezaro missed out on her third medal of the Games when she finished fourth in the final of the Women's 100m Breaststroke (SB4 ). Pezaro, who already has two bronze medals to her name, finished 0.66 seconds behind third-placed Teresa Perales of Spain.

Inbal Ganapol Shwartz finished her heat of the Women's 50m Freestyle (S6 ) in a time of 39.02 seconds, giving her 13th place overall, while Erel Halevi finished 12th overall in the heats of the Women's 50m Freestyle (S7 ).

In the sailing events, Hagar Zehavi and Shimon Ben Yakov are currently sixth overall in the Two-Person Keelboat event after eight races. In the Three-Person Keelboat event, the Israeli team of Dror Cohen, Arnon Efrati and Benny Vexler finished yesterday's seventh race in fourth place, but are still languishing far from the medal positions in 11th place.

In the Individual Freestyle Equestrian Test (Grade III ), meanwhile, Israel's Yonatan Dresler, riding Ubelisk, finished in 11th and last place.
