Kevin Evans of South Africa won gold in Thursday’s Maccabiah cycling race, held in the Upper Galilee. Ukraine and Israel took the other two medals behind Evans, a former champion of South Africa, on the 130-kilometer course. Paz Bash won the women’s race in an Israeli medal sweep. In women’s rowing, Team USA came in first in the quadruple event ahead of Israel’s team, which included Yasmin Feingold, who nearly drowned when her boat overturned in the Yarkon River in 2009.

“You don’t see this level here every day. They’re at a very high level because of collegiate races,” said Feingold. In baseball, Canada’s juniors rebounded from defeat Wednesday to down Israel 3-1 Thursday. The Canadians meet Team USA in the finals today.  In field hockey, Yasmin Lev scored three goals and Teddy Klooster
‏added two as Holland beat Team USA 5-1 to set up a final Sunday against Argentina.
