Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Maccabi Haifa 2-1 to win the Toto Cup at the Netanya Stadium on Wednesday night.

Over 12,000 spectators enjoyed an interesting and tense game, played by two veteran rivals. Haifa dominated for the most part, but in the 41st minute succumbed to an own goal by substitute Matan Ohayon.

Tel Aviv defender Eitan Tibi scored an own goal in the 53rd minute to level the score. Just as it seemed that the game would go into overtime, Tel Aviv was awarded a questionable penalty after Haifa’s Dekel Keinan appeared to foul Tel Aviv’s Barak Badash outside the penalty area. Referee Menashe Mashiach pointed to the spot and Nikola Mitrovi converted the penalty, giving the league champion its first title for the 2014-2015 season.
