Jerusalem Mercaz won its second close Israel Netball match in a row last Thursday, rallying past previously undefeated Jtown 42-39.
Jtown (7-1) will have a chance to bounce back next Thursday when it takes on Tel Aviv. The match will coincide with a raffle Israel Netball is holding to gain support for its national women’s team, ahead of the European Championships and Maccabiah Games this summer.
Jerusalem Mercaz (6-3) trailed at the end of every quarter, always remaining within a point or two before closing out the final frame with a 15-10 run. The victory was payback for Mercaz’s opening day loss to Jtown back in November.
Despite the loss, Jtown remained on top of the league standings with 37 points. Mercaz (6-3) is third with 32 points. Meanwhile, second-place Ra’anana, the only other team to beat Jerusalem Mercaz this season, had no problem dispatching Kfar Etzion 58-5. Ra’anana (6-2) has 33 points. Kfar Etzion will visit Modi’in next Thursday.
Next month, Israel Netball is sending a team to the Netball Europe Open in Aberdeen, Scotland, the organization announced. The squad in Scotland will also represent Israel at this summer’s Maccabiah Games, when six senior teams (including new squads from Hong Kong and Argentina), and four junior teams, will compete in the netball tournament.
The league also announced it will hold the draw for its fundraising raffle at the Kfar Etzion-Modi’in game. For info on supporting Israel Netball and participating in the raffle, visit https://makeachamp.com/israelnetball.
