Netball: Givat Washington battles Ra’anana to rare draw

Givat Washington held off a late charge by Ra’anana and had to settle for a rare 43-43 draw in Israel Netball action last Thursday. The team had built a slight 22-19 halftime lead and extended it to eight points at 36-28 by the end of the third period. However, a determined Ra’anana squad refused to be kept down, forcing the first draw of the season. The tie puts Givat Washington in second place at 17, three points behind Tel Aviv and one ahead of Ra’anana. In the other league game Thursday, Jerusalem Mercaz dominated last-place Kfar Etzion 51-22. Jerusalem Mercaz is now in fourth place, one point behind Ra’anana. (Haaretz Sports)

Soccer: Ra’anana avoids draw to stay on top of International Football League table

Michelle Orellano earned a brace for Ra’anana FC, which eked out a 4-3 away win against Combo to stay on top of the International Football League of Israel table. The two squads had been tied 1-1 at halftime. Ran Pardes and Rani Lachman each added a goal for Ra’anana. Atletico Niv kept pace with Ra’anana on points – both have 38 – after earning its own 2-1 away win in Jaffa against FC GT. Kobi Aslan and Nir Tal each scored in the victory. AJAF remained in third place and four points behind the table leaders by also winning on the road, defeating FC United Tel Aviv 3-2 after a scoreless first half. (Haaretz Sports)
