Inter Aliyah Tel Aviv had a very frustrating afternoon this past weekend, as a single penalty was enough for visiting Elitzur Yafo to take all three points with a 1-0 victory.
Captain Sam Sank, regularly on defense, was forced to play goalie with no one else available and the Inter defense did well to stop him from having to make many saves. There were a number of good chances for the hosts in the first 45 minutes, but Daniel Geron, Leo Fingerhut and Jaime Kauffman were denied by the impressive Elitzur keeper.
Fingerhut was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area and Sank guessed right, but could not stop the resulting spot kick from going in for the day’s first and only goal. After the half time break, the away side did everything possible to slow down the game and the time-wasting tactics frustrated Inter Aliyah. An offside goal and a late golden opportunity that was missed summed up a miserable afternoon for Inter.
The loss leaves Inter Aliyah trailing the top of the table by three points after two matches.
The team will be looking to quickly forget about the result by making amends this Friday when it visits Beitar Ramat Gan.
