The AFI Men’s Flag Football League playoff bracket is set, as the league concluded its regular season with a slate of games that finalized the league’s seeding.
- Israel flag football: Joey’s Lobos rally late, Camp Shalom crumbles
- Flag Football / AFI: Hillbillies, Lev, lead road to playoffs
- Israel flag football: Thundermuffins make noise on busy weekend
In a mild surprise, the upstart Frisch Cougars grabbed the top seed in the Myra Kraft division, finishing off a 15-3 regular season with 13-12 & 24-7 wins over the TC Hedgehogs.
In the Ezra Schwartz division, both TYA and MMJ won convincingly – over the Killer Bs and Long Island Smokers, respectively – but neither team could displace the Tzionim, who grabbed the top seed in the division by virtue of their sparkling 16-2 record.
However, neither Frisch nor the Tzionim could lay claim to the best record in the league. That honor went to two-time defending champs the Briut Modi’in Thundermuffins, who lost one game all year (to DEC) en route to a 17-1 regular season.
The top-32 team bracket is thus set, with teams from all three divisions matching up with dreams of going to the Holyland Bowl.
And right off the bat, several matchups are eye-catching.
Longtime league mainstay DEC will have its hands full with the Bruschis, who are led by star WR Gabe Leifer. The TABC Storm, in a downward spiral since QB Rami Levine left, tangles with Mercaz, which is also missing its starting QB.
BB4L plays veteran Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp., while the Big M.A.C.S. face a stern test from Chaikel Travel, and Joey’s Lobos face a formidable LI Smokers team looking to pull the upset.
It should be an exciting weekend.
