Flag Football / AFI: Hillbillies, Lev, Lead Road to Playoffs

Ashreinu third, while TABC Storm, Camp Shalom and The Big Lebakshis share fourth place in a crowded field.

With teams headed down the home stretch in the AFI Flag Football League, the playoff battle is beginning to take shape. In a battle at the top of the Myra Kraft Division, the Frisch Cougars moved into a tie for first with Lev Night Sheidim, as Frisch swept Lev 19-13 and 12-7.

Ashreinu moved within one game of first, defeating Our Place 14-13 and 20-19. Meanwhile, TABC Storm, Camp Shalom and The Big Lebakshis share fourth place in a crowded field. The former two split their twin-bill this week, while the dudes of The Big Lebakshis bowled over the High Rollers, 20-12 and 19-13.

In the marquee match-up of the week in the Max Steinberg Division, the Briut Modi’in Thundermuffins needed a miracle-tipped catch in the endzone for a 19-18 comeback win against Mercaz. A strong start in the second game by Briut caught Mercaz flatfooted, and the defending champs cruised 20–6, as league observers speculated on a potential Holyland Bowl rematch.

The Thundermuffins technically trail Har Nof Hillbillies by one win, with two games in hand. The Hillbillies stayed atop the chart with a pair of shutouts over Yitzy’s Famous Liver, while Mercaz finds themselves in third.

In the Ezra Schwartz Division, Torah Youth Association knocked MMJ off their first-place perch with a 13-13 tie followed by a 14-13 win. This left Tzionim in first place on a bye week, and allowed BB4L to leapfrog into second, with 13-12 and 19-12 wins over the Shalhevet Firehawks.
