Cavaliers coach Davit Blatt says Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip is the country's "most justified war" in years.
In an interview with Globes business daily published Thursday, the former Maccabi Tel Aviv coach and dual Israeli-American citizen said, "I'm really sorry about what's happening in Gaza, but there's no doubt that we had to act there, so that Israel will have quiet there once and for all, and we can live in peace."
When asked if he feels there is support for Israel in the United States, Blatt said, "There's support, although sometimes it's not enough," adding that, in his opinion, Israel has received more support this time than in previous operations in Gaza.
Blatt has "put himself squarely on the line" by voicing his opinion on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, wrote Dan Feldman in an article for NBC Sports, adding that whether the coach is right or wrong in his views, he "is putting himself out there in a way few NBA coaches do."
