Soccer / Europa League / Bnei Yehuda In, Maccabi Netanya Eliminated

Bnei Yehuda's opponent in the third qualifying round will be PAOK.

Soccer / Europa League

Maccabi Netanya beat semiprofessional KuPS Kuopio 1-0 last night, but could not prevent the great embarrassment of being ousted by its relatively weak Finnish host from the Europa League's second qualifying round.

Bnei Yehuda, meanwhile, completed its task by winning 1-0 at Shirak to move on to the next round.

Tal Benin, Netanya's coach, put three strikers on the Kuopio synthetic pitch - Omer Peretz, Achmad Saba'a and Idan Shriki. He also sent Yossi Shivhon and Ali Hatib on attacking assignments. Hatib nearly scored after eight minutes, but it would be another 32 minutes before Saba'a would conquer the Finnish goal with an accurate shot from 10 meters out.

But Netanya could do no more and finished its European campaign with the bittersweet win.

Over in Armenia, Bnei Yehuda never really was threatened by Shirak, which looked even worse than it did at Bloomfield Stadium last week.

Bnei Yehuda's opponent in the third qualifying round will be PAOK.

Shalev Menashe scored the winning goal for Bnei Yehuda in the 31st minute off a pass from Pedro Galvan.

Maccabi Tel Aviv, which is holding its soccer camp in Spain, took on Spanish second-division club Murcia. Maccabi won 1-0 on a goal by Moanes Dabour.
